Late Gurkirpal Kaur Goindi (Obituary)

GURKIRPAL KAUR GOINDI B.A.; B.Ed; DPE; ND (DOB -25.01.1932)

1. Dr.(Mrs.) Gurkirpal Kaur Goindi was born on 25.01.1932 and left for her heavenly abode after a very saintly and peaceful death on 16.12.2014.

2. After her graduation (B.A.) from Panjab University in 1951, she obtained a Diploma in Physical Education (DPE) from Punjab Education Department in 1952. She qualified as a teacher (B.Ed.) from Delhi University in 1954 and started her career as a teacher in Physical Education.

3. During her schooling, she became a pioneer in mastering Indian Martial Art, known as “Gatka” in Punjab at the age of 15 years. She joined Theosophical Society while still a teenager and became the President of the Youth Wing in Delhi in the mid-fifties. She was commissioned as NCC Officer amongst the few girls in India opting for military training, in the early years of India’s freedom from British Rule.

4. Mrs. Goindi turned a staunch Gandhian given to non-violence and other Gandhian tenets after her marriage with Dr. Satyendra Singh Goindi who belonged to a devout Gandhian family. Mrs. Goindi’s father-in-law, S. Bhagwan Singh Goindi was popularly known as “Sialkot Gandhi”.

5. In 1968, Mrs. Goindi fell seriously ill because of severe osteoarthritis, asthma, anaemia and digestive disorders that led to severe bleeding from both her lungs and general debility. In 1969 doctors at AIIMS, Delhi had said that her osteoarthritis was beyond treatment. In 1971 doctors at Allahabad hospital had pronounced that due to her various ailments and failing health she would not live beyond 4 to 5 days.

6. Instead of spending the last days in the hospital, Mrs. Goindi opted to stay at home with her family. It was then in 1971 that the burning desire to see her recover from her many irreversible ailments made Dr. Satyendra Singh Goindi apply natural laws of nutrition on her. Surprisingly and miraculously she came back from the very doorstep of death and was on the road to recovery within 12 days of treatment with Naturo-Food Therapy to become an eminent Naturo-Food Therapist herself. Thus she lived a purposeful life for 44 years after she was nearly declared dead by doctors in 1971.

7. Mrs.Goindi was gifted with a melodious voice and before her severe ailments she used to sing occasionally before audiences in Gurdwaras and at other functions. Due to her ailments including bleeding lungs, her voice was adversely affected. But with her sheer will power and incessant faith and dedication in Naturo-Food Therapy, her melodious voice was revived and she even recorded an album of Gurbani Shabads in early 1984.

8. Dr. Gurkirpal Kaur Goindi and Dr. Satyendra Singh Goindi (former Director of Gandhi Samarak Bhawan, Chandigarh) became a unique team of votaries of nature-cure. They devised an alternative human dietary regimen based on the twin attributes of easy digestibility and taste. Taste they say is important attribute of food which triggers the digestive glands to secrete digestive juices, which in turn must get easily digestible food for making good blood fortified with natural resistance (immunity).

9. Alternative Nutritional & Tasty Foods/Beverages – The Goindis, in the pursuit of their Health and Nutrition Mission, have developed numerous oil/fat-free vegetarian nutritional and tasty foods using germinated/sprouted cereals and grains. These foods, to name a few, include sweet/salted biscuits, cakes, dosas, sambhar, pizzas, koftas, dalia, porridges, naan breads, palak and other pakoras, dahi vadas, potato chips, germinated wheat halwa, pinnies of germinated moong/chana and many more. They have also developed a new range of hot and cold beverages/sweets especially for the children, such as rose/amla sherbets, kulfi/ice cream made from milk of seeds like that of melon. A special drink “kafita” prepared from wheat has the aroma, colour and taste of coffee but without the ill-effects of

caffeine. Another unique drink which can be taken hot or cold is made from sesame seeds which gives a tea-like colour and is nutrient rich in calcium, some vitamins and essential amino acids. They have also perfected a very tasty herbal tea powder using over two dozen ingredients.

10. Ailments Cured – The Goindis have over the last 45 years cured hundreds of patients in India and abroad, with the aid of their unique Naturo-Food Therapy. Those cured were suffering from various ailments (many incurable with conventional medicines) such as; diabetes, arthritis, gout, gangrene, constipation, stomach disorders, ulcers, varicose veins, piles, skin diseases, defective nervous system, spondylitis, aches and pains, heart, liver, lung and kidney ailments, high cholesterol, high/low blood pressure, obesity, thyroid, eye, ear & gynae problems, kidney and gall stones, asthma, cancer, TB, Parkinsons and several other diseases. 100% success rate has been achieved when patients have adhered to the discipline in the prescribed dietary regime.

11. Dr. (Mrs.) Gurkirpal Kaur Goindi was one of the five Founder Trustees of Goindis Naturopathy Trust established in 2003. Her passing away is a big irreplaceable loss to the Trust. Even though she is no more with us, her absence and contribution to Naturopathy and Naturo-Food Therapy will always be felt.

12. On the invitation of the sister Holistic Naturo-Food Therapy Trust in the U.K., Dr. (Mrs.) Gurkirpal Kaur Goindi and Dr. Satyendra Singh Goindi visited U.K. in 2004 (23 June to 31 August) where they treated 52 patients suffering from various ailments with Naturo-Food Therapy and without any allopathic medicines.

13. Dr. Mrs. Gurkirpal Kaur Goindi became a well known Naturopath who presided over the All India Women Naturopaths Conference in 1981. She had put to miraculous use for the chronic patients, particularly women suffering from gynae problems, the experiences gained by her hard and steadfast efforts to retrieve her own lost health after being given 4-5 days only to live in 1971 by doctors. And thanks to her training in physical education, she became the author of a set of remedial exercises for bed-ridden patients.
